Scholarship Application

& Award Policy

1. Statement of Non-Discrimination

Institutum Antiquitatis is deeply committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse academic community.

  • Equal Opportunity: We do not unlawfully discriminate in our admissions, educational policies, or scholarship distribution on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or socio-economic background.

  • Merit & Need-Based Evaluation: All scholarship applications are evaluated impartially by our academic committee based purely on the applicant's academic potential, dedication to the active method of classics, and financial need.

2. Eligibility Criteria

Scholarships are open to both new and continuing students who meet the following requirements:

  • Age Categories:

    • Minors: Must be at least 14 years old at the time the course begins.

    • Adults: Open to adult learners, university students, and independent scholars of any age.

  • Technological Readiness: As an online institution, applicants must demonstrate reliable access to a high-speed internet connection, a functioning webcam, and a microphone to actively participate in our synchronous lessons.

  • Academic Alignment: Applicants must express a clear dedication to learning ancient languages (such as Latin or Ancient Greek) through the active method (spoken and communicative approach).

3. The Application Dossier

To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must submit a complete application package via email. Incomplete dossiers will not be reviewed. The application consists of:

  • 1. Application Form: Completed personal details (including parental/guardian information for students under 18 years of age).

  • 2. Statement of Purpose (SOP): A brief written essay detailing your passion for the classics, why you wish to study via the active method, and your long-term academic goals.

  • 3. Financial Need Statement: A brief explanation detailing how and why a scholarship would be helpful to start, continue, or complete your studies. Your statement should clarify how this tuition waiver will impact your academic journey at Institutum Antiquitatis.

  • 4. For Minors (Ages 14–17): A signed Parental Consent & Endorsement Letter, confirming that the legal guardian supports the active-method requirements and agrees to our online recording policies.

4. Evaluation and Award Process

Scholarships are competitive and awarded for the duration of a single academic module or course.

  • Selection Committee: Applications are reviewed by our the Board, excluding any members who disclose a conflict of interest with the applicant, who will recuse themselves from the vote.

  • Seat Allocation: To maintain a high-quality learning environment, Institutum Antiquitatis grants exactly one (1) scholarship seat per individual course offered each term.

  • Criteria Weights: The committee scores dossiers based on Academic Motivation (40%), Alignment with the Active Method (30%), and Demonstrated Need (30%).

  • Award Tiers: Scholarships are typically awarded as Full Scholarships (100% tuition waiver) or Partial Scholarships (50% tuition waiver). Material costs (such as textbooks) are generally not covered unless explicitly stated.

5. Confirmation & Acceptance

Once a scholarship is granted, the student must formalize their placement:

  • Notification: Successful applicants will receive an official Scholarship Offer Letter via email.

  • Formal Confirmation: To accept the award, the recipient (and their parent/guardian, if the student is a minor) must sign and return the Scholarship Agreement via email within 7 business days of receiving the offer.

  • Seat Forfeiture: Failure to return the signed agreement within the specified deadline will result in the immediate forfeiture of the scholarship, and the seat will be offered to the next candidate on the waiting list.

6. Conditions of Retention & Multi-Level Progression

To retain a scholarship throughout the course duration, recipients must adhere to the high standard expected of Institutum Antiquitatis scholars:

  • Attendance Benchmark: Scholars must maintain a strict minimum of 85% live attendance across all synchronous sessions.

  • Active Participation: Because our school utilizes the active method, scholars must fully engage in spoken exercises, group work, and interactive sessions. Passive or silent attendance (unless a formal accommodation has been approved in advance by the academic committee) may lead to a review of the award. The scholarship recipient will receive at least one written warning via email prior to forfeiture. Upon receipt, the student will have a 14-day cure period to demonstrate full compliance with the school's attendance and participation benchmarks.

  • Academic Standing: Scholars must complete all homework assignments and sit for mandatory final evaluations or interviews at the end of the module (applicable for language courses only).

  • Multi-Level Continuity (Language Courses): To support long-term academic growth, language students who successfully fulfill all retention conditions may apply to extend their scholarship to the next sequential module or proficiency level. This allows dedicated students to proceed through the full curriculum uninterrupted.

  • Spot Availability Proviso: Continuous progression is strictly conditional upon the availability of the single scholarship seat designated for that specific higher-level course at the time the student is ready to enroll. If the scholarship seat for the next level has already been allocated or is unavailable, the student will be placed at the top of the priority waiting list for the following academic term.
