2. Course Overview

  • Abstract: This course will introduce the student to reading and writing Ancient Greek, essential phrases needed for the classroom usage of Ancient Greek, introduce basic vocabulary and elementary grammar.

  • Comprehensive Description:  By gradually progressing from sounds to building syllables, from syllables to building words, and learning to read and write the Greek alphabet, the student will internalize basic vocabulary and grammar needed to make the first steps in their Ancient Greek study.

  • Language Level:

    • Framework Reference: N/A

    • General Description: Beginner; students don’t need a prior knowledge of Ancient Greek

  • Estimated Self-Study Time:

    • Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week.

    • Preparation Type: Students will not need to prepare topics before class, but homework may be given, and revision of topics and lessons previously done is essential for quality participation in class.
